Dear Oakton Neighbors and Friends,

Happy October! Fall is here and this month brings two important opportunities to help shape the future of Oakton. From making our roads safer and easier to navigate to creating a more welcoming and functional community park, the decisions being discussed will affect how we live, move, and connect with one another. Please join us at these upcoming meetings to hear the latest plans, ask questions, share your ideas, and help ensure our community’s priorities are heard.

Oakton Congestion and Safety Study Public Meeting, October 5th, 7 pm

How can we make Oakton safer and easier to navigate for drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, and transit users?  At this third public meeting, Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) will present results from its first public survey, analyze future traffic scenarios, and share proposed improvements for walking, biking, and other forms of active transportation. A question-and-answer session and discussion will follow.

Following the meeting, public and stakeholder feedback will help inform the development of an additional traffic scenario for testing. FCDOT will also solicit additional public feedback through an online survey, which is expected to be posted on the Congestion and Safety Study webpage in October. If you have any questions or would like to discuss the study, email Tim Kutz.

Community Meeting on Enhancement to Oakton Community Park, October 19th, 6pm

What would make Oakton Community Park an even more welcoming and useful place for our community? Join GOCA and the Fairfax County Park Authority for a presentation and community conversation about potential park enhancements.

If you visited Oakton Day in the Park, you may have met Park Authority staff and seen the Phase 1 renderings for a new pavilion, made possible by a generous anonymous donation from a local community member. This is an exciting step toward creating an improved gathering place for our community.

GOCA is also advocating for additional amenities, including water, a restroom, and a small kitchen, that could make the park more functional for community events and everyday use. These improvements are part of the Phase 2 vision shared at Oakton Day and would require a community-led capital campaign.

This is your opportunity to learn about the plans, ask questions, and share your ideas for the park’s future. We hope you’ll join us at the historic schoolhouse and help us envision what’s possible.

Other fun ways to get to know your community…
