History comes alive at the old Oakton Schoolhouse! April 24, 2022
On 24 April, the Greater Oakton Community Association (GOCA) hosted Jeff Clark, Video Production Specialist with Fairfax County Public Schools, for a presentation “Education in Fairfax County from 1870-1945”. The gathering of over 45 local residents marked the first time the historic schoolhouse located in Oakton Community Park has served as a place for the community to gather since 1912! Making a Difference on National Make a Difference Day! Oct 27 2021
Amidst the falling leaves of early autumn, some 44 volunteers donated close to 90 hours toward GOCA’s National Make a Difference Day event on Saturday, October 23. One group, under the lead of Ralph and Janet Tener, planted over 200 daffodil bulbs under the woods at the entrance to the park. Teams Make Progress With Trail Cleanup in Oakton Community Park - Sept 25 2021
The Greater Oakton Community Association has established an effort to help clear the informal trails in the woods in Oakton Community Park. Oakton Day in the Park Draws Many Local Residents - Aug 13 2021
On August 8th, some 250 local residents, community representatives, and volunteers attended the first ever “Oakton Day in the Park,” held in Oakton Community Park on Hunter Mill Road. With the backdrop of music from talented local performer Chris Devine, attendees enjoyed a wide range of activities. Children painted rocks, listened to stories, walked along a “storybook walk,” played cornhole and bean bag toss, flew wood gliders, and competed with hula hoops. Adults enjoyed se

Plaque Presented to Honor Owner of Oakton Wine Shop, 23 Jun 2021
On June 23rd, Greater Oakton Community Association Co-Chair Patty Reed and GOCA board member Linda Byrne presented a plaque to Oakton Wine Shop owner Bryan Gauthier to express appreciation for his consistent support of the Oakton community and GOCA over the past decade. Sadly, the Wine Shop is now closed, but we are hopeful Bryan will find another location for the business sometime soon.
